Jill LaFleur/Jose Villa Wedding Photography Workshop; Ojai Valley Inn & Spa, CA

By: Wendy Roe
Part 1 of 2

My friend Courtney Kelley and I were packed into the 2011 WPPI sold out room for Southern California wedding planner extraordinaire, Jill LaFleur.  She was the first wedding planner to be invited to speak to an anxious group of wedding photographers on working with coordinators, getting published and doing inspiration shoots.  In pure shock, she drew our business card out of a basket, and for the first time ever, I won something!  I won a 1-day exclusive workshop with her, Jose Villa, Abby Larson (Style Me Pretty) and a handful of wonderful speakers.

This week, I flew down to California and the beautiful Ojai Valley Inn & Spa.  The workshop was a jam-packed day with a focus on marketing/branding and shooting wedding details.  Since that’s my focus on the company (Byron being the primary shooter), it was a perfect fit.  Complete with a ‘Great Gatsby’ bride/groom inspiration shoot, it was a great day.

This post is part 1 of 2.  This first one features images of the workshop speakers and highlights from their mini-sessions as well as the beautiful details that Jill put together for each of the participants.  The second (coming this week) will feature the Jose Villa inspired shoot and the bride/groom images.

Enjoy!

One of my favorite images of Jill during the day 🙂

The ‘Artist Cottage’ was the fun spot for the day of learning.  Each took their turn and in this shot, Joel Serrato presented his film-making skills.

Of course I had to get my signature shot with Jose Villa himself.  Thank you Joel for grabbing a few frames for me 🙂

Jill, being the detail queen, gave each participant a goodie bag.  Of course we had to get some detail shots of those too!

The lovely note cards from Ceci, beautifully packaged and presented.  Reinforces the understood notion that ‘love is in the details.’
